The Office for Inclusivity & Change (OIC) at the University of Cape Town will continue to provide a safe space for all interested individuals who are passionate about transformation, inclusion and diversity.

Due to the nationwide lockdown, the Transformation, Inclusion and Diversity Think Space will now take place online and can be accessed by all interested and passionate individuals in and beyond the university’s bounds.

“Crisis and emergency situations exacerbate existing inequalities and power disparities,” explained Gabriel Khan, stream leader for inclusivity capacity building at the OIC. “The Think Space will continue to explore how these inequalities and power disparities play out in higher education and the implications [it] can have on the teaching, learning and research environment during crisis and emergency situations.”

The first Think Space took place on Friday, 6 March, where participants engaged with prescribed readings and selected one passage from each reading to discuss. Participants were then encouraged to bring alternative perspectives and counterarguments.

The second Think Space will take place online on Friday, 3 April, using Microsoft Teams. Thereafter, think spaces will take place on 22 May, 7 August, 2 October and 4 December. All the think spaces will take place from 14:00 to 16:00.

To participate, RSVP by emailing Khan. Once the RSVP has been received, you will receive a participation link as well as a link to download readings.
