Distinguished women in science awards
The Department of Science and Technology, through the South African Women in Science Awards, recognises women whose distinguished achievements in science, technology, innovation and research are an inspiration to the nation. The University of Cape Town was very well represented in all categories and scooped a first prize and a second prize in the two main categories.

UCT researchers set new benchmark in NRF ratings
Eleven researchers from UCT had their A ratings confirmed by the National Research Foundation at a ceremony on 1 September 2009 - an unprecedented number from a single South African university in one year and more than half of all the A ratings awarded.

Two years on, implementation of new rape law remains handcuffed
In the late 1990s, the 10-year process of reforming the law relating to sexual offences began. The result was the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act, commonly referred to as the Sexual Offences Act, which took effect in December 2007.

Bumper numbers to be capped at UCT winter graduations
