Update on PASS bargaining engagements

24 May 2024 | Emeritus Professor Daya Reddy

Dear colleagues

Further to the communication shared on Monday, 20 May, I write to provide an update to all staff on the Professional, Administrative Support and Service (PASS) staff 2024 salary increases.

My executive colleagues and I are concerned that we are approaching the middle of this year with staff members not as yet having had the benefit of a salary increase. This places many of our colleagues and their families in difficult situations.

In the interest of ensuring that all employees are paid the salary adjustment due and without further delay, increases for PASS employees in payclasses 2 to 12 will now also be implemented on 25 June 2024. These will be backdated to 1 January 2024.

We remain committed to working with all employee unions. Regarding the matter referred by the PASS unions to the CCMA, we await further communication.

I thank all staff for your forbearance and acknowledge your continuing commitment and loyalty to our institution.

Sincerely

Emer Prof Daya Reddy
Vice-Chancellor interim
