In remembrance: Xolile Lucas Mdushu

08 November 2023

Dear colleagues and students

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Mr Xolile Lucas Mdushu (52), who served as an officer in Campus Protection Services (CPS). Mr Mdushu passed away on Sunday, 26 October 2023 at Mitchell’s Plain Hospital.

Mr Mdushu joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2016 as a CPS protection officer. He was based at lower, middle and Hiddingh campuses.

Colleagues will remember him as a quiet and soft-spoken individual who was regarded as a great team player. He was always willing to go beyond the call of duty. He displayed his experience in everything he did and was always committed to assisting students and staff.

He is known to have demonstrated unwavering dedication, professionalism and a positive spirit that inspired everyone around him. His hard work and commitment played a pivotal role in the success of the CPS department, and colleagues say his absence will be deeply felt by all.

Mr Mdushu is survived by his daughter Lelihle, sons Zozo and Liyena, grandson Simeyi, brother Bulelani, and sister Xoliswa. He will be buried on Saturday, 11 November 2023 in his hometown of Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Mdushu family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him during this time of bereavement.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
