In remembrance: Andani Nokwanda Mthembu

31 January 2022

Dear colleagues and students

It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our student, Ms Andani Nokwanda Mthembu (22), on 7 December 2021. She was tragically killed in a car accident.

She joined the university in 2018, studying towards the MBChB in the Faculty of Health Sciences. In 2020 she changed her programme and was studying towards a BSc degree at the time of her passing.

Her family were devastated that their daughter passed away at such a young age. Her father described her as a very intelligent, down-to-earth young lady who he was sure was going to be a valuable member of society. “Whilst her death leaves us with heavy hearts, we find solace in that our loved ones, always walk with us, unheard and unseen,” he said.

Ms Mthembu is survived by her father Sibusiso, mother Thivhonali Doris Ralulimi and her younger sister Una.

Her funeral was held in Midrand, Gauteng, on Wednesday,15 December 2021.

The university reached out to offer support to the Mthembu family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved her during this time of bereavement.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
