Celebrating staff at UCT Annual Awards

01 December 2021 | From Kgethi

Dear colleagues and students

As we reach the end of what was yet another challenging year, we are reminded that we reached this point due to the absolute dedication and perseverance of the staff of the University of Cape Town (UCT). While we give thanks for the efforts of every colleague, this is the time of year when we also take a moment to celebrate the special recognition that some staff members have earned. In some cases this is for serving the UCT community faithfully over many years; in others it is for exceptional work performance above and beyond the ordinary.

Although COVID-19 protocols continue to prevent us from enjoying each other’s company in a physical ceremony, we will host the UCT Annual Awards on Monday, 6 December 2021, to give our celebrated colleagues the opportunity to walk the virtual red carpet.

The categories we will celebrate include Ad Hominem Promotions, the Alan Pifer Award, Distinguished Teacher Awards, Long Service Awards and the Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Awards in the categories of Global Citizenship, Service Excellence and Transformation.

I want to take this opportunity to also express appreciation for you colleagues who work with those who are being honoured this year – and, indeed, all the staff members across our community. Each of you helps to make UCT a place where exceptional service is possible. For instance, every year we celebrate colleagues who have served the university faithfully over several decades. Such loyalty arises because of the work environment you each help to create. Your dedication during this time has not gone unnoticed.

I invite you to join us in this online celebration to honour those who work alongside you. The UCT Annual Awards will be broadcast online on the UCT News website, YouTube channel, as well as Facebook and Twitter platforms.

Date: Monday, 6 December 2021
Time: 18:00 SAST

I look forward to celebrating with you.

Sincerely

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
