Announcing the 2021 UCT Open Textbook Award winner

12 October 2021 | DVC A/Prof Lis Lange

Dear colleagues and students

I am pleased to announce that the 2021 UCT Open Textbook Award goes to Associate Professor Maria Keet for her ground-breaking resource, An Introduction to Ontology Engineering.

Associate Professor Keet, who is based in the Department of Computer Science, has produced the first textbook of its kind globally in this subfield. Tailored to the South African student context, it addresses issues related to localisation, multilingualism, disability access and technical innovation.

The UCT Open Textbook Award aims to recognise outstanding open textbooks written by UCT staff and students which advance the university’s transformation and social justice agenda.

Please join me in congratulating Associate Professor Keet on this honour of winning the 2021 UCT Open Textbook Award.

Sincerely

Associate Professor Lis Lange
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning
