Newsroom and Video Production

30 September 2021

Whether it’s crafted in writing, captured in photos or conveyed in video, the Newsroom and Video Production team produces creative and compelling news content that promotes the university among internal and external audiences.

We bring life to the institution’s many inspiring stories, produce a wide range of print and digital publications, and manage content uploads and updates on the main UCT website and the news, staff and student websites. We also curate content for the Campus TV platform.

In 2020 a lot of focus went into keeping the UCT community informed of the latest developments around COVID-19, with tips shared on how to keep safe, and video conferencing tutorial videos distributed, as events moved to the virtual space.

Space was created for UCT community members to share about their lives under lockdown: the good, the bad and the ugly; while achievements were celebrated through video and written articles. We also partnered with the UCT Choir to conceptualise and deliver “Thuma Mina”, a video thanking and acknowledging the work of all our essential service workers.

*We reduced our print run in 2020 as the lockdown presented a challenge of distributing hard copies; however, we saw this as an opportunity to also focus on our digital versions and improving on those, as well as an opportunity to reduce our unit’s carbon footprint.
