Implementation of the Disciplinary Policy and the Policy Addressing Bullying

28 July 2021 | Dr Reno Morar, COO

Dear colleagues

The university Council approved both the new University of Cape Town (UCT) Disciplinary Policy as well as the Policy Addressing Bullying at its meeting held on 19 June 2021. These policies will be applicable to both Professional, Administrative and Support Services (PASS) and academic staff members.

Please be advised that the new Disciplinary Policy will be effective from 1 August 2021 to ensure a smooth transition from the previous policies to the implementation of the new policy. During this period, UCT Human Resources (HR) has planned a series of implementation-related activities and interventions for stakeholders. These engagements are to ensure that the new policy will be successfully implemented across the university. All disciplinary matters initiated prior to 1 August 2021 will be dealt with in terms of the current PASS and academic disciplinary policies.

Human Resources will follow a similar approach with the Policy Addressing Bullying in respect of the planned implementation-related activities and interventions to ensure its successful implementation. The effective date of implementation of this policy is also 1 August 2021.

The Employee Relations Directorate within UCT HR will oversee matters until the implementation plan and necessary training with HR has been completed.

The respective policies will be uploaded onto the UCT HR website on 1 August 2021.

Sincerely

Dr Reno Morar
Chief Operating Officer
