In remembrance: Bettwell Bonkolo

Dear colleagues and students

We are truly saddened to inform you that Mr Bettwell Bonkolo (65), a supervisor in the Residence Cleaning Department, passed away on Tuesday, 13 July 2021.

Mr Bonkolo joined the university in July 2016. Colleagues described him as a father, mentor, guardian and an activist for the working class. He has also been described as man who stood for what he believed in. He will be remembered by his colleagues for being kind-hearted.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three children, Sydney, Nelson and Kevin; and sister, Cynthia.

His funeral will be held on Sunday, 25 July 2021 in Cala, Eastern Cape.

The university is in contact with his family and has reached out to offer support during this time of grief. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Mr Bonkolo’s family, friends and all who knew him.
