In remembrance: Nokwanda Xulu

22 January 2021

Dear colleagues and students

We are filled with deep sadness, as we write to inform you of the passing of our student, Ms Nokwanda Xulu (20), on 10 January 2021 in Durban due to COVID-19 related complications.

She was studying towards a degree in Social Sciences in the Faculty of Humanities.

Fellow students will remember her as a kind and welcoming person who loved to smile and was always in a bubbly mood, even on “bad days”.

The management of her residence, Graça Machel Hall, has called upon students to continue her legacy by being particularly kind to each other and to comfort one another where they can and continue adhering to the COVID-19 regulations.

Ms Xulu is survived by her parents.

Her funeral took place on 13 January 2021.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Xulu family. During this time of grief, our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends and all who knew and loved her.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
