Resignation of Dean of Commerce

20 October 2020 | From Kgethi

Dear colleagues and students

I write to notify you that the Dean of Commerce, Professor Linda Ronnie, has asked to be released from her role as dean. She has indicated that she wishes to return to her academic role.

Professor Ronnie took up her position as Dean of the Faculty of Commerce on 22 October 2018, bringing with her a wealth of institutional knowledge and experience. During her tenure, she steered the faculty towards several milestones and we benefitted immensely from her leadership during a period of university-wide transition and transformation. While we are naturally saddened to be losing her at leadership level, we fully understood her request to be released from her leadership role. We are glad that she is not going to be lost to the University of Cape Town (UCT) but will continue with her excellent academic work.

She joined UCT in 2002 as a senior lecturer in human resource management and was appointed Associate Professor in Organisational Behaviour and People Management in January 2017. Just a month ago, she was promoted to full Professor.

Professor Ronnie will remain at the helm of the faculty until the end of March 2021. The university has commenced with the recruitment process for her successor.

Please join me as we appreciate the work that Professor Ronnie has done in, with and for the faculty in the past two years.

Sincerely

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
