In remembrance: Rufus Swangaza

07 July 2020

Dear colleagues and students

We are very sad to inform you of the passing of Mr Rufus Swangaza (39), who passed away on Tuesday, 30 June from a heart attack.

Mr Swangaza was enrolled in the master’spublic health programme specialising in environmental health within the Faculty of Health Sciences. As a postgraduate student and environmental health professional he was keen and engaged, always striving to learn more. While in class he was ever enthusiastic with a distinct smile and his cheerful demeanour will be missed by everyone in the programme.

He is survived by his mother, sister and two daughters aged 11-years-old and five-months-old.

Details of his funeral and memorial services have not yet been finalised.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Swangaza family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew Mr Swangaza.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
