Isabel Casimiro is president of the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and professor at the Centre of African Studies, Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, Mozambique. She is a women's rights activist and co-founder of the Women and Law in Southern Africa Research and Education Trust, an organisation that works toward improving the rights of women and girls through legal and policy reform and changes to discriminatory socio-cultural practices. She is also a co-founder of Fórum Mulher, coordinator of the 14th Women’s World Congress, September 2020 in Maputo, and a former member of parliament for FRELIMO, the Mozambique Liberation Front. Casimiro’s research interests include women human rights, social movements, women and feminist movements, democracy and participatory democracy, and solidarity economics.
