Update on executive appointments

23 January 2020 | From Kgethi

Dear colleagues and students

I write to update you on some developments regarding appointments at the Leadership Lekgotla level. We have made one substantive appointment and two new acting appointments, while the tenure of two colleagues has been extended.

Dean: Centre for Higher Education Development

Associate Professor Alan Cliff, whose tenure as the interim dean was due to end on 31 December 2019, will now continue in this capacity until 31 December 2021. The recruitment process is still on hold.

Dean: Health Sciences

As announced late last week, we have appointed Associate Professor Lionel Green-Thompson to this role with effect from 15 March 2020. Professor Carolyn Williamson, who was due to end her interim tenure at the end of last year, is continuing in an acting capacity.

Director: Graduate School of Business

We also announced last week that Emeritus Professor Hugh Corder has been appointed as the interim director for eight months, beginning on 15 January 2020. He took over from Associate Professor Kosheek Sewchurran, who had been serving in an acting capacity since June 2018. The recruitment process for this role will resume this year.

Executive Director: Research

The term of Dr Marilet Sienart came to an end when she retired at the end of 2019. Ms Christina Pather has been appointed as acting executive director from 1 January 2020 until a substantive appointment is made. She is the director: research enterprise. The recruitment process has commenced.

We are pleased to welcome a new member, Ms Pather, and to welcome back Emeritus Professor Corder to the Leadership Lekgotla. We look forward to continuing to work with Associate Professor Cliff and Professor Williamson, and to working with Associate Professor Green-Thompson when he takes up his new role in March.

Sincerely

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
