Institutional Review: 2008–2018

20 March 2019 | From the Chair’s Desk

Dear members of the campus community

The Institutional Review: 2008–2018 was recently completed and is now available on the UCT website.

The review reflects on the progress UCT has made over the past decade and outlines some of the challenges that the university will face in the future.

The publication gives an overview of UCT operations, including research, internationalisation, teaching and learning, infrastructure, student life and activism, transformation and financial sustainability.

The university experienced significant growth during this period, in terms of the number of both undergraduate and postgraduate students and in terms of physical infrastructure. It also experienced complexities that challenged the institution deeply and, in some cases, will continue to challenge it in the future.

I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Dr Max Price for his sterling contribution and his commendable stewardship of the university as the vice-chancellor during the period under review. I thank similarly his executive team, the academics and the many wonderful and dedicated members of staff who worked extremely hard to deliver the results celebrated in this review.

Sincerely

Sipho M Pityana
Chair of UCT Council
