Staff and students are invited to enter the annual UCT 10 km Memorial Run on 6 May.

Registration is at 06:00 above the Kramer Law Building, middle campus. The race starts at 07:00 and ends on the Groote Schuur/Woolsack Oval. The 10 km route takes runners through campus, Newlands and Rondebosch. Entry is R100.

Started in 1983 in memory of UCT star athlete Merrilyn Smith, the event now also memorialises UCT’s iconic female distance runners Isavel Roche-Kelly and Lindsay Weight, as well as Kevin Rochford and Andrzej Okreglicki. These athletes are represented by the five stars on the race medal.

The 2018 Lindsay Weight Memorial Scholarship Fund recipient will be announced at the prize-giving. Prizes are up for grabs and participants are urged to donate shoes and warm clothes to SHAWCO’s Rags2Riches initiative.

The UCT Athletics Club and the chemical engineering students committee have partnered to support the Reach Your Goals Scholarship Fund. Participants can donate when they sign up for the event.
