In remembrance: Sicelo Sindelo

03 May 2018

Dear colleagues and students

It is with a profound sense of grief that I inform you of the death of Mr Sicelo Sindelo (31). He passed away on Monday, 23 April 2018.

Mr Sindelo joined the Wellcome Centre for Infectious Diseases Research in Africa (CIDRI-Africa) as a research nurse in June 2015. For the past three years he worked on all aspects of many projects within the group and was a particularly successful and professional study participant recruiter.

He will be sorely missed by all at CIDRI-Africa and the Khayelitsha (Site B) Community Health Clinic where he was held in high regard for his exceptional work ethic. The team at the clinic will remember him for his quiet manner and warm, broad smile.

The funeral will take place on 5 May in Cradock. He is survived by his partner, Andiswa, and two children: Esothando (6 years old) and Alunamda (23 months).

CIDRI-Africa and UCT counselling services have been in contact with his family and have reached out to offer support and assistance during this difficult and painful time.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Mr Sindelo’s family and friends.

Sincerely

Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
