In remembrance

10 August 2017

Dear students and colleagues

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Ms Tiyiselani Mpangane (20), a third-year actuarial sciences student. Ms Mpangane was found dead in her room at Obz Square on Tuesday evening, 8 August 2017. She is survived by her parents and a sibling.

Ms Mpangane will be remembered by those who knew her as a kind, humble and caring person, and a conscientious student.

Details of her funeral and memorial service will be shared separately, once known.

We convey our deepest condolences to Ms Mpangane’s family, friends and those who knew her. The university has been in contact with her family and is providing support to them, as well as counselling support to those affected by the loss.

The untimely death of a person, especially someone so young, is always difficult to understand and to accept. Members of the university community who have been particularly affected by this news are reminded that counselling support is available through the Human Resources Department for staff members and the Student Wellness Service for students.

Sincerely

Prof Daya Reddy
Acting Vice-Chancellor
