In remembrance: Lusanda Kgosi Mokoape

Dear colleagues and students

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Mr Lusanda Kgosi Mokoape, a first-year humanities student. Mr Mokoape was found dead in his room in the Kopano residence on the evening of Wednesday, 26 April 2017. The South African Police Service has yet to determine the cause of death.

The university has been in contact with the family and has offered support during this time of bereavement. Counselling is also being arranged through the Student Wellness Service for all students affected.

A candlelight vigil for the residents of Kopano is planned for tonight and a memorial service will be arranged in due course.

On behalf of the UCT community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mr Mokoape.
