Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price recently visited the SRC phonathon hub as the team prepared to conclude a weeklong programme to raise funds for its #FundingFutures campaign.
The #FundingFutures phonathon saw students make phone calls to alumni to ask them to support the SRC campaign to provide financial relief to students who are unable to register due to historical debt.
The 2016 SRC is hoping to raise R1 million, which will be disbursed in a process similar to the current SRC Assistance Fund.
We are proud to announce that the VC, Dr. Max Price has made a pledge of R150 000 to #FundingFutures! @UCTStudent @UCT_news @eNCA @TimesLIVE

Price, who has pledged R150 000 towards the campaign, said: “I wanted to show my support by coming down here to say thank you for volunteering lots of your time on behalf of others. There are many students for whom the money raised here will really make a difference.”
The VC also highlighted the significance of this project in helping alumni to feel reconnected to the university through personal contact with current students.
“Many of our alumni feel alienated from the university, but talking to you [the students] and hearing about your experiences, changes that attitude and can help alumni to feel connected to their alma mater again. I really want to thank you all and thank the SRC for taking this initiative.”
