Physics event wows learners

13 November 2009

The Department of Physics hosted Phenomenal Physics 2009 on 29 October to stimulate interest in science, specifically physics, among high school learners. About 200 Grade-11 learners from 30 schools around the Cape Peninsula participated in a host of demonstrations (not covering material in the school curriculum) that showcased the importance of the field. "We hope that the learners left the event with a greater appreciation of physics as a science," reads a statement from the department. The event also highlighted learners to centuries of study and development of physics theories and technologies that today impact on people's lives.
