Klatzow première in Stellenbosch

04 August 2009

Distinguished international violist and president of the Canadian Viola Society, Jutta Puchhammer-Sédillot, gave the world première of the South African College of Music's Professor Peter Klatzow's Sonata for Viola solo at the International Viola Congress in Stellenbosch recently. The Sonata was written in memory of Oleg Alexeev, violist and instrument maker, who died tragically in a microlight accident last year. He was married to Farida Bacharova, professor of violin at UCT. The three movements of the Sonata are marked Stillness and Disruption, Fear, and Release and Resolution. The premiere was well received and there have been several requests from the members of the congress for printed scores of the music.
