GSB students raise funds for charity

Christmas came early for the Thembalitsha Foundation when students at the Graduate School of Business raised thousands of rands.

The postgraduate students in Management Practice linked up with the Cape Wine Academy to host an Introduction to South African Wine course in August, coming up with R12 000.

The foundation runs projects to help adults and children in need, particularly those with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The course is endorsed by the academy and provided a fun way for people with little or no previous wine knowledge to discover the history of local wines.

Steve Stewart, who headed the fundraising initiative, explained: "One of our classmates is a Cape Wine Master and a facilitator on Cape Wine Academy courses, and we thought it was a good opportunity to raise funds through this channel."

Stewart said 40 wine-lovers registered, and those who complete the course have an opportunity to do advanced wine programmes through the academy.
