Freshly grounded

A fresh batch of first-years flocked to campus yesterday. Humanities, first out of the starting block, expects a whopping 1 200 new students. Undergraduate orientation, the induction programme before registration, runs over the next few weeks. Registration concludes on 14 February.

"Orientation at its heart is about a warm welcome, but also about students accepting their responsibilities," says Johnathan Hoffenberg, Humanities' student recruitment and undergraduate orientation officer.

On 15 February, a mere five days before lectures start on 19 February, the streets of Cape Town will be littered with Sax Appeal vendors, enjoying their last book-free days of the semester. They have their first meeting of classes on 16 February.
