Hand over your dough for a good cause

08 August 2005

Replenish your cookie jar and help UCT's Amnesty International branch and the Gender Forum raise money in what has become an annual cookie bake to celebrate Women's Day on campus.

For the third year in a row, students will report to Baxter Hall kitchens on August 9 from 17h00 till late to help turn out thousands of cookies for sale.

The cookies are moulded in the shape of a "gingerbread woman" to play on the stereotype of domesticity.

This year, however, the mixture will be a sugar cookie recipe rather than the more unreliable gingerbread dough used in previous years, which proved to be somewhat crumbly. Another innovation will be the quotes from famous African women poets and writers on the packaging.

Support this cause by buying the cookies (at R5 for two) during lunch hours on Jammie Plaza during the week, or in departments where volunteers will be selling them.

All proceeds go to Rape Crisis.
