Unsung heroes get their day

13 September 2004

Their day: Guests at last week's Secretaries' Day celebrations.

This week we toast a collective - the legion of secretaries and administrative officers who, unsung heroes that they are, keep the wheels of UCT industry turning behind the scenes.

These secretaries and officers tore themselves away from their desktops, telephones and files and assembled in Smuts Hall last week to celebrate annual Secretaries' Day. Organised by the Keylink committee, drawn from the group's ranks, the event allows the staffers a deserved break from their toil to be pampered with food and a sackload of prizes.

The celebrants also enjoyed some stargazing, rubbing shoulders with P4 Radio celebs Natalie Becker, a UCT graduate, and Julian Naidoo, special guests at the event.
