Lecture on forced separation of indigenous Australian children

23 August 2004

Professor Kay Schaffer, a visiting professor in the UCT English department and research fellow of the National Research Foundation, will present a seminar on Beyond Apology: The Stolen Generation(s) Inquiry in Australia, in lecture room 116 in the Arts Block on Wednesday, August 25, at 13h00.

Schaffer, adjunct professor in the gender studies programme at the University of Adelaide in Australia, will be talking on the official report to come out of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission inquiry (1995-1996) into the forced separation of indigenous children from their families in Australia, an investigation that followed in the wake of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings.

Tea will be served after the discussion to welcome Schaffer to the department and UCT.
