Hockey men still flying high

Where's the ball? Matthew McConkey of UCT (left) and Fish Hoek's Jonty Robinson scrap for a bouncer.

While the women's side took a few weeks break to accommodate their provincial duties, the UCT men's first side had to play two games in the space of four days recently.

In the first match, the side went up against the UCT B team - which also plays in the WP Grand Challenge League - for a university derby. The first team took a comfortable 2-0 lead at halftime, thanks to goals by David Portman and Mark Oelofse. But two defensive blunders in the second half allowed Jamie van Schoor and Ryan Kohler to net for the B side, and secure a 2-2 draw.

Then on Saturday, May 8, the side finished comfortable 3-1 winners against Fish Hoek. Dave du Prez (2) and Adam Wilson scored for UCT.
