Soccer teams whittle down the numbers

The right chemistry: Chemistry United's Peter Buckton (with beard) boots the ball away as Sisikelo FC's David Edwards (with glasses) and Raaif Najaar close in during last week's knockout tournament. United moved into the second round after beating Sisikelo 2-0.

Having wound up their league games a few weeks ago, the 50 or so teams that make up the UCT indoor five-a-side soccer fraternity have cantered into the home straight - the year's knockout challenge.

The teams kicked off the tournament last Tuesday (September 10), and will slowly pare their numbers down over lunchtimes for the next few weeks. The competition final will be played sometime in mid-October.

League winners Shaolin Temples go in as favourites, but they will have to ward off stiff competition from squads such as Masala Angels (renowned for their spicy wings), That Team (you know which ones we're talking about? You know, That Team), and their close buddies, Another Team (no, not That Team, Another Team).
