De Lille and top province women for networking breakfast

14 July 2003
Two senior UCT personnel will be doing their bit to promote networking among the province's professional women next month, alongside the leader of the new Independent Democrats party, Patricia de Lille. Associate Professor Cheryl de la Rey (Deputy-Vice-Chancellor) and Professor Jennifer Thomson (Molecular and Cell Biology) will host tables at a celebratory Women's Day breakfast on August 8, arranged by HERS-SA and the University of Stellenbosch Business School Executive development Ltd (USB-ED). HERS-SA is an organisation that develops professional development in the South African higher education sector. The breakfast will gather some of the Western Cape's key women, including De Lille, who, as the keynote speaker, will share her success story. An "extraordinary woman" will host each of the tables and guests are invited to join a table of their choice. Besides De la Rey, Thomson and De Lille, table hosts include Wendy Anyster (finalist in the Black Management Forum's Manager of the Year, 2002), Bronwyn Bock-Jonathan (erstwhile Proteas netball captain and sports lecturer), Sheryl Ozinsky (Cape Town Tourism head), Dr Ozma Mbombo (medical doctor and community campaigner), the Honourable Ms Justice Belinda van Heerden (scholar and Judge of the High Court), and Dr Susan Vosloo (cardio-thoracic surgeon specialising in children with heart defects). With this mix of expertise and personalities, there is bound to be plenty of opportunity for discussion and networking. The breakfast will be held at the University of Stellenbosch Business School, Bellville Park, Bellville at 07h30 for 08h00. The cost is R110.
