Sachs' visit raises funds for Constitutional Court artworks

09 June 2003
UCT alumnus Professor Albie Sachs was the guest of honour at a reception held at the Convocation Hall at the Law Society of Upper Canada in Toronto in late May. Sachs, internationally renowned anti-apartheid activist, human rights scholar and Justice of South Africa's Constitutional Court, last visited the city to launch the new edition of his book The Soft vengeance of a Freedom Fighter. All proceeds from the tickets sold at the reception will go to the Constitutional Court Trust's artworks programme. The Trust will purchase works of South African artists for the new Constitutional Court, scheduled to open next year. The event was held under the auspices of the South Africa Canada Connection, hosted by Henry Blumberg, chair of the UCT Foundation in Canada.
