Jabbar to add music to expanding performance repertoire

Mannie Abrahams-Jabbar with his daughter, Warda Jabbar, who plans to join the UCT SACM next year, specialising in opera and violin.

ONE OF UCT's HR Managers, Mannie Abrahams–Jabbar, will be among the many proud parents at this year's graduation when his daughter, Warda Jabbar, receives her honours in drama.

Jabbar junior plans to add another dimension to her artistic repertoire next year when she joins the South African College of Music (SACM). There she will specialise in opera under the tutelage of Virginia Davids, and the violin with Associate Professor Jurgen Schwietering.

Jabbar has been playing the violin since she was a child and has played on several occasions for the Rutter Orchestra, a Cape Town-based orchestra that comprises professional and amateur musicians.

Jabbar says she is considering continuing with her drama studies but she is in two minds about it. “I will think about it over the summer. I enjoyed doing drama because it allowed me to incorporate theatre and music,” she elaborates.
