On 22 July, the University of Cape Town (UCT) hosted the launch of the Access4ALL project in partnership with the FirstRand Foundation, the Higher Education Disability Services Association (HEDSA) and representatives from Rhodes University, Sol Plaatje University, Mangosuthu University of Technology as well as the University of Zululand.
Established in 2021, Access4ALL addresses gaps in institutional support for students with disabilities, as identified in the 2018 Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) Disability Framework. The initiative has completed a national situational analysis of 23 universities, onboarded four institutions for targeted support and developed training modules ranging from disability advocacy to universal design. The Mangosuthu University of Technology is preparing to launch a fully-fledged disability unit this August.
