The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng hosted a Women’s Day lunch at Graça Machel Hall on 10 August 2022, with the theme: “Yes, trans women are women”.
#ForWomxnByWomxn research grantees – Professor Janet Hapgood, Dr Katye Altieri and Dr Robyn Pickering – gave updates on their exciting research projects.
The keynote address was presented by Liberty Matthyse, a self-identified trans woman and executive director of Gender DynamiX, the first registered, Africa-based public benefit organisation that focuses solely on trans and gender-diverse communities and movements in the Southern African region.
