The University of Cape Town (UCT) is partnering with Yale University in the United States and other universities and networks on a global climate change project calling for student participants.

The 2020 Global University Climate Forum is looking for multidisciplinary teams of students at all levels to submit their actionable project ideas in one of four tracks: inspiration and empowerment, ideas into action, governance and policy innovation, and innovation and imagination.

The idea is to harness the energies, ideas and learning of students who are passionate about addressing climate change.

Teams that are selected (they will be notified by 15 October 2020) will be invited to participate in a week-long online event series starting on 9 November 2020. After this, student teams will be expected to update and execute their projects and provide progress reports over six months. Reporting will begin in December 2020 and end in May 2021.

Teams that complete all three phases – application, workshop and implementation – will be featured in a presentation during COP26, the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference. This is scheduled to be held in Glasgow in the United Kingdom in November 2021.

Applications will close at 06:00 on 30 September 2020.

Apply to participate in the global climate change project.
