Restoring ancestors to their home through transformational UCT process
An interdisciplinary team of academics from the University of Cape Town and two international institutions has conducted a series of scientific studies on the remains of nine people from Sutherland. They have uncovered a range of findings which could influence national policy for future burial and restitution.

Stable isotope analyses helps to tell the Sutherland story
Professor Judith Sealy, from the Department of Archaeology at the University of Cape Town, reflects on her role in the Sutherland reburial and restitution process. Her team was responsible for the chemical analyses process, specifically the stable isotope analyses. By analysing the bones, teeth, soil and other archaeological materials her team was able to understand the diets that people followed, and the environments they lived in.

His team was responsible for analysing the Kruisrivier cemetery, and for identifying the individual graves the remains were taken from.
