Cronin to address UCT Conference on Social Equality
Jeremy Cronin, South Africa's Deputy Minister of Public Works and the Deputy General-Secretary of the SA Communist Party, will address a special session of the Social Equality Conference hosted by the Philosophy Department at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, from 15-17 August 2014.

UCT Council approves new admissions policy for 2016
The University of Cape Town Council voted on Saturday, 14 June 2014, to approve in principle a new admissions policy model that will incorporate race as 1 of several factors to be considered in assessing an applicant's historic disadvantage.

PhDs at UCT June graduation increase by almost 50%
A total of 110 PhD students will graduate from the University of Cape Town this week - an increase of almost 50% compared to a total of 75 in June 2013. The university will award 1,508 degrees to students across various faculties at its graduation ceremonies this week. In June 2013 the total was 1,374 and in June 2012 it stood at 1,340.

Two-pronged treatment can reduce TB incidence among people with HIV, study finds
A trial of isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) plus antiretroviral therapy (ART) to prevent tuberculosis has shown safety and efficacy in patients with HIV, say researchers of a University of Cape Town (UCT) study published in The Lancet.
