Pride and gratitude

Pride and gratitude defined autumn graduation week as students from various faculties crossed the stage of the Sarah Baartman Hall at the University of Cape Town (UCT) to receive their qualifications. The occasion was further elevated by the presence of former chancellor Graça Machel and current chancellor, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe. Alongside more than 6 000 graduates capped, UCT also took great pride in awarding humanitarian Dr Imtiaz Sooliman with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (honoris causa); and distinguished musician and cultural leader George Werner with a Doctor of Music (honoris causa) for his exceptional contribution to South African jazz.
