The Green Mile was abuzz on 12 February as hundreds of first-year students gathered for the annual DSA Welcome Festival, hosted by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
Designed to introduce newcomers to the diverse and enriching opportunities that shape student life, the festival showcased a wide range of cultural, creative and career-aligned student organisations, as well as other extramural activities on offer. Students also engaged with key support services, including Student Wellness Service, Student Governance and Leadership, Residence Life and Financial Aid, alongside corporate partners.
A vibrant line-up of local artists, DJs and student performers kept the energy high, while food trucks offered a variety of treats throughout the day. UCT Vice-Chancellor Professor Mosa Moshabela was among the executive who mixed and mingled with students while DSA’s executive director, Pura Mgolombane, shared practical tips to help students flourish academically and lay strong foundations for their future careers.
