In remembrance: Sibusiso Kunene

26 April 2021

Dear colleagues and students

We are deeply saddened as we write to belatedly inform you that our student, Mr Sibusiso Kunene (52), passed away on 4 February 2021 due to COVID-19 related complications.

Mr Kunene completed his second year in Executive Management MBA (EMBA) at the Graduate School of Business (GSB) and was about to hand in his research report.

The GSB will remember him and other students who lose their lives whilst on the EMBA programme with an annual memorial lecture open to all EMBA alumni. This is a new event in the calendar that will be used to honour and show appreciation for the resilience and grit our colleagues show in taking on “unbounded challenges” in their communities wisely. The lecture will be based on the work of alumni and the first lecture will focus on Mr Kunene’s research projects presented by his supervisor.

Mr Kunene leaves behind his wife and three children.

His funeral took place on 9 February.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Kunene family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew him.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
