Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price has written to the campus community to appeal to staff and students to participate in an important event – the University Assembly on Free Education, which is to be held outside the Memorial Hall at 15:00 today. The assembly will discuss various models and positions on free education in South Africa. All staff and students are encouraged to take advantage of this platform to express their views on these important matters affecting not only our campus but all universities in the country.

UCT has returned to face-to-face teaching on all campuses. Similarly, all other university operations, including tests, examinations and practicals, continue as scheduled.

UCT students and staff have been invited to a university assembly at 15:00 outside the Memorial Hall. The assembly aims to determine the university’s view on issues such as free education, fee increments and financial exclusion. Jammie Shuttles will run from 14:00 to 15:00 to transport staff and students to the assembly.

Various speakers will give their viewpoints on the matter and address issues that will be important in responding to the leaked Fees Commission report. This will be an opportunity for the university community to come together in making a very public statement about the funding of higher education at a critical time, just before the release of the report.
