A mass meeting called for by students took place from 13:00 to 14:00 in the Memorial Hall today.

The group made several demands related to fee-free education and other issues. The group left the Memorial Hall and entered the New Lecture Theatre and several other buildings on upper campus. Lectures in several buildings were disrupted, evacuation alarms were set off, and buildings were evacuated. At least two tests were also disrupted.

The group then made its way to the library, which was briefly closed, but reopened shortly thereafter. The group moved to the Bremner building, where it handed over a memorandum to Vice-Chancellor Dr Max Price, who addressed the group. While addressing the group, the VC reminded the group that he had written to President Jacob Zuma calling for the fees report to be released. Read the statement...

There were disruptions to several classes today but the group dispersed and regrouped at lower campus in the evening for a meeting on the lawns outside Graca Machel residence. All class activities and test continued in the evening. The library, including Jammie Shuttle and other services remained operational.
