2016 Rhodes Scholars

The Rhodes Scholarship is a postgraduate award given to outstanding all-round students, who get the opportunity to further their studies at Oxford University. A class of 89 scholars is selected each year from 22 countries. In 2016 UCT has no fewer than five Rhodes scholars, each with an inspirational story and aspirations to leave the world in a better state than they found it.

The Rhodes scholars are:

• Mary Jiyani – Malawi's first female Rhodes scholar
• Will Cahill – Fighting the world's fight
• Kgaugelo Sebidi – Another opportunity to 'seize the day'
