CHED releases statement of solidarity

23 October 2015 | CHED

CHED stands in solidarity with South Africa's students and all their supporters in the fight against all barriers to access and success in Higher Education. This includes the current protests against financial barriers as well as other barriers that students may experience, such as language, inappropriate curriculum, poor teaching and learning and an alienating culture. We recognise that these are systemic problems; they are the result of a higher education system that currently is failing the majority. We urge the President, the Minister and all Vice-Chancellors to commit themselves to taking collective responsibility for this failure as well as collectively finding solutions. As an outcome of these protests we in CHED renew our commitment to serving our students in their determination to achieve a quality educational experience and to make their contribution into the wider world of work and society.
