UCT's first Health and Safety Week campaign in April turned out to be a worthy exercise, and an eye-opener for many. Students and staff, as well as service providers, reacted positively to the various presentations and demonstrations on health and safety at work, reports Michael Langley, UCT health & safety manager.

Themed Setting the Standard for a Safer and Healthier Environment, the campaign, hosted by the Safety, Health & Environment Department, created awareness of health and safety issues on campus, and showcased the work that the department is doing in this regard.

The success of the initiative has set the bar for the campaign for coming years, noted Langley. In the meantime, the talks will now be taken to departments and focus groups.
