Transformation in song

Philip Miller

Renowned composer and musician Philip Miller presented a talk at UCT on 3 March as part of the university's Month of Transformation.

In the talk, titled Music and Transformation, Miller, a UCT law graduate, outlined the process of producing his award-winning choral work, Rewind: a Cantata for Voice, Tape and Testimony. Rewind, designed and directed by Gerhard Marx, and featuring vocalists Sibongile Khumalo, Fikile Mvinjelwa, Arthur Swan and Kimmy Kkota, is based on the testimonies of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and commemorates the victims of apartheid.

It has been performed in Johannesburg, the US and the UK, and Capetonians will have an opportunity to enjoy it when it comes to the Baxter Theatre in May.
