Vice-chancellor Dr Max Price has hailed the outgoing Students' Representative Council (SRC), saying that UCT is privileged to have such strong student leadership.

"If I can have an SRC like this every year, I can wish for nothing better," Price said as he bade them farewell on 1 November.

Price said the 2009/2010 has showed maturity when engaging with controversial issues. The committee went beyond fighting for student services and grappled with real issues, including matters beyond campus.

These include hosting the inaugural African Student Leaders' Summit, which Price said was an "amazing and well-executed initiative" that forms part of the legacy that this SRC leaves for both UCT students and students from the rest of the continent.

Price added that committee members were privileged to have participated in the SRC, as they had been exposed to an education they could not get in any classroom.

"These are the experiences most people take decades to acquire."
