UCT alumna Sarah-Jane Brandon has gone through to the final round of the Placido Domingo Operalia Competition, currently taking place at the world renowned opera house La Scala in Milan, Italy.

Brandon, a soprano who studied with Sarita Stern at UCT, was one of 40 applicants selected for the competition from over 900 applications, and one among only 15 women. Thirteen contestants went through to the final.

"Two seconds before I was about to go on stage I realised that I was going to sing on the main stage of La Scala," says Brandon. "I nearly died from the shock. It's amazing to sing there."

The final round is on 2 May.
