Graduates return to their roots

08 December 2007

Scores of doctors returned to their roots when they converged at UCT for the Faculty of Health Sciences' series of annual reunions.

The celebrations began on 23 November with the class of 1992 touring Groote Schuur Hospital, visiting the famous Robben Island and enjoying a picnic at the Kirstenbosch Gardens, among other activities.

The class of 1967 followed on 30 November, concluding their round with a Medical 10km Fun Run at the Western Province Cricket Club sports complex.

Coming this weekend will be the class of 1957 while the class of 1982 is set to conclude the reunions on 16 December.

According to Joan Tuff, alumni officer for the faculty, the graduates were plying their trade around the world and some were last at UCT when they graduated.

"The idea is to bring the doctors back to where they started and give them a chance to see their old friends at UCT," she said.

About 45 doctors attended each of the reunions.
